GREYSTONE SAN DIEGO – TASTY GRUB WITH A HISTORIC VIBE

Right in the heart of the San Diego Gaslamp Quarter on 5th and G, you will find a Steakhouse with tasty grub and a historic vibe: Greystone San Diego.

I live in Downtown and walked by this place so many times, but have never been there. Last week, at a get-together of our local San Diego Travel Massive Chapter, I was invited to check out this place and eat my way through their tasty menu.

HAPPY HOUR

We came for the Greystone Happy Hour and got a great sample of their extensive appetizer menu and cocktail list. From delicious charcuterie boards, pan-fried dumplings, asparagus wrapped in filo dough, crispy calamari, and savory grilled beef skewers, to tasty craft cocktails, this place hits the spot if you are looking for a fancy happy hour in the Gaslamp. The Greystone Cocktail menu is also worth sampling. Bartender Rob knows what he is doing and gave us great recommendations on what to try.

STEAKS: WAGYU BEEF & SPECIALTY MEATS

While we didn’t get to try the steaks and other meats on the menu, they definitely sounded amazing. If you are looking for a special treat like Wagyu Beef, you are in the right spot. You can choose from Australian, American, and of course Japanese Wagyu Beef – no wonder Greystone was named Best Steakhouse in San Diego in 2020!

If you have an adventurous palate, this is also the place for you to go! You will find bison, wild boar, elk, and even antelope on the menu, as well as the more traditional beef cuts like Tomahawk, Porterhouse, Rib Eye, etc.

VEGETARIAN/VEGAN + SPECIALTY MENUS

It is always great to see restaurants offering more options for people with dietary preferences. Greystone offers a pretty extensive vegan/vegetarian menu for a steakhouse. Many of the vegetarian items do have dairy though, so if you are vegan, make sure to clarify what exactly is in each dish. There is also a great selection of Gluten-free dishes to choose from if you are looking for these options.

I love it when restaurants offer delicious options for EVERYONE and make no one feel left out because of their way of eating. For me, this is definitely a big bonus point, when I choose places to meet up with larger groups.

VIBE – ATMOSPHERE – AMBIANCE

As I mentioned in the headline, this place has a historic vibe, but with a modern twist. Greystone has been feeding San Diegans steaks since 1999. Not bad for the ever-changing Gaslamp Quarter. But even more historic is the building itself, which was built in 1874 and was used as a police station, San Diego city hall, and even a theatre.

The stunning Florentine-Italianate style brick building has been beautifully restored, yet the inside sparkles with a modern do-over. I am in love with the textured wall across from the bar. So pretty!

If you prefer to dine outside, you can do so on their patio and on the weekend on their extended patio – perfect for people watching! Greystone Steakhouse is a great choice if you are looking for tasty appetizers and yummy cocktails in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter. Can’t wait to go back and try their steaks soon!
