This was the worst experience I have ever had. My husband made reservations based on reviews my son had looked at and recommended this place to us. My husband made reservations for Valentines Day our reservations were for 5:15pm the place was crowded so the manager that was wearing a red blouse asked if we would be ok if we were seated outside it was nice evening, so we agreed we were seated in front of the restaurant outside in the far-left corner another couple was seated across from us about the same time. We were served water a few minutes later our waiter came up to us his name was Manny handed us our menus and walked away came back a short time later and took my husband and my order, we saw that he also took the order from the couple on the side of us. The couple sitting beside us started conversation with us very nice couple we got to know each other pretty well to the point that you would have thought we were on a double date lost track of time. Next thing the manager in the red blouse that sat us outside comes to the table and wants to clear off the table stating that the reservation is for only 90 minutes and that the next reservation has to be seating, I was flabbergasted and said we haven't even gotten our food by now it is 6:30pm we she looks at us in disbelief and tells us "oh you haven't had your food, let me go check with your waiter" leaves and then Manny the waiter comes out with 2 salads that he proceed to give to the other couple the lady tells the waiter they were here before us shouldn't these salad go to them and he answers and says I'll be right back comes back out with 2 Caesar salads that were absolutely disgusting. someone comes and takes our plates another 15 minutes go by and my husband sees the manager and again tells her we have not gotten our food, yet she looked at him and said let me go check with the kitchen my husband tells me what you want to do I told him let's just leave by now it is 7:00 pm so we walked out. This was the worst experience ever, not only did the manager not ever come back and explain anything to use of what was going of no apology or anything also the waiter not once ever check on us either we saw other people that came in after us and they were served and were eating. Very bad service not impressed at all for a place that has good reviews.
My husband made a 4:15pm reservation at Greystone Prime Steakhouse and Seafood to celebrate Valentine’s Day. It was our first time here and we were excited to try somewhere new, in San Diego. Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the most disappointing (and uncomfortable) dining experiences we’ve had.
First, the seating situation was unbelievably cramped. The tables were so close together that I could barely squeeze through with my pregnant belly (and I’m not a large person!) I can’t imagine how uncomfortable this would be for someone plus-sized. It was honestly embarrassing trying to maneuver to our table without bumping into the couples next to us. To make matters worse, my husband’s chair was positioned along the walkway leading to the only bathroom in the restaurant, so staff and guests were constantly bumping into him all night.
Our table was wobbly to the point that we had to hold it steady with our knees while eating. The wall next to us was visibly dirty — it looked like food had been splattered on it and never cleaned (I even took a photo). For a restaurant charging over $200 for dinner, basic cleanliness and stable tables shouldn’t be too much to ask.
Now for the food. We ordered the prix fixe menu, and while the 8oz filet mignon was good, everything else was extremely underwhelming for the $250 total we paid for two people. My “wedge salad” was not a wedge at all — just a few (very few) dry lettuce leaves with barely any blue cheese crumbles and no actual blue cheese dressing. It was a sad excuse for a starter. Dessert was one of two options: I chose the lemon cake. It looked and tasted like a slice of Costco cake. We didn’t even finish the salad or dessert. It honestly felt like we paid $250 for two small filets and frustration.
The service made the night even worse. Our waiter, Dan, was extremely pushy and impatient from the start — and mind you, we arrived before the Valentine’s Day rush at 4:15pm. He repeatedly assumed I was done ordering, cut me off, and when I tried to order additional sides, he ignored me entirely until my husband had to repeat the order for him. He rushed us through salad and entrees, yet disappeared completely when it came time for dessert and paying the bill. We had to flag someone down just to leave.
The most uncomfortable part was when it came time to pay. After my husband tapped his card, the waiter handed the machine to me to complete the tip and sign. As I was reviewing the suggested tip amounts, he repeatedly tried to grab the machine out of my hands before I was finished — four separate times to be exact. I had to tell him I wasn’t done, and my husband even asked him to please be patient and give me a moment. It was unbelievably rude and I felt pressured to leave a tip that I didn’t feel comfortable leaving. Standing over someone and trying to snatch the payment machine mid-tip is not how you create a positive dining experience.
One last thing that stuck with me: a table set for a party of six had three separate couples seated literally SHOULDER TO SHOULDER…all three separate couples that did not know each other had to sit at one table with their dates for Valentine’s Day. It was incredibly awkward and uncomfortable to watch, I couldn’t even imagine how they felt. If that had been us, we would have definitely walked out.
For $250, we expected quality food, attentive service, a clean environment, and at the very least a comfortable place to sit. Instead, we left feeling rushed, cramped, and disappointed. Sadly, this was not worth the price, and we will not be returning.

I was really disappointed with our Valentine’s Day experience at Greystone Steakhouse. For a night that’s supposed to feel special and romantic, it was anything but.
The restaurant was extremely overcrowded. Tables were literally shoulder to shoulder — there was no privacy at all. It felt cramped and chaotic instead of intimate. To make things worse, our table was near the stairs leading to the restroom, and people kept bumping and even kicking my chair as they went up and down. It completely ruined the atmosphere.
Our waiter, Dan P., made the experience even more frustrating. From the start, he rushed us to order and didn’t give us time to relax or enjoy the moment. When you’re spending over $250 for dinner, you expect a quality dining experience — not to feel pressured the entire time. Even when it came time to pay the bill, he rushed us again.
For the prices they charge, the service and overall experience should match. Unfortunately, this felt more like a crowded cafeteria than an upscale steakhouse. Definitely not the Valentine’s Day experience we were hoping for.

Joey was the best and most attentive server!! Perfect place for date night!
waited an hour to get in although we made reservations...then waited 20mins for a waiter then another 20 mins to get our food..to top it all another 15 mins for the main course...salad was warm mashed potatoes and mushrooms cold..asked for the manager to tell her how it was she didnt carte ....waitress was great so after a bottle of wine and dinner $400 we wont be back
One and done. Was recommended by one of our concierge's, but we weren't impressed. Booked an early dinner to celebrate a birthday. Bread service must start after 6:00 pm as we weren't offered any, yet the guests arriving after us were. Fried calimari was like very chewy and dry, sea bass (supposed to be crusted but lacked seasoning) was room temperature above the hot risotto below, so obviously plated later, lamb chops were good. Didn't refill water glasses, didn't bring the after dinner liquor requested. Did bring a complimentary slice of cake for the birthday. For the price, there are many better options. We tipped accordingly.
NOT recommended. Try one of the higher rated places in the area instead.
SERVICE: Good
No complaints (*). For a mid-level restaurant would have been 5-stars. At these prices, I expect a server to know the menu in detail and execution to be very polished. That was not the case. Our server did however have a great personality and worked to ensure we had a good experience which we appreciated. The asterisk is for suspect issues with the bill: tuna tartare rung up as the $33 deconstructed Wagyu steak tartare sub tuna (almost $10 more than the menu price as I remember), asparagus rung at $19 - $2 more than on the menu. It felt like these issues were stemming from the restaurant not our server. She offered to address but it simply wasn't about the money to me.
ATMOSPHERE: had a slight charm in its own way but is not modern, sophisticated, nor upscale classic.
The interior is a bit worn and the bathroom actually pretty nasty, water and wet paper all over, with a decor akin to what you might expect for a public restroom not a high-end restaurant. Fellow customers were not dressed up and it is definitely not a scene.
DRINKS: set the stage for how this place is such a poser and pretender.
The $20 espresso martini one of the worst I've had. The $22 24K Golddigger horrible. Maybe the bartender was out sick? These drinks were not made with any skill.
FOOD: sub-par, even for places at half the price point.
12oz bone-in-filet: respectably seasoned but over-cooked and the cut was terrible...at $139 a joke! The bone was on the small side and I'd guess the actual steak size to be ~11oz with 7-8oz of meat, very thin, too thin to prepare well with a crazy amount of tough fat leaving it devoid of that filet coveted tender signature. A bone-in can be fattier than a center-cut but this was excessive. I ordered hoping for a filet bigger than the 8oz -the only other option- which I had already suspected would be too thin to be cooked to that perfect crust while leaving a tender cool red center. If you do go here order a different cut or if you really want a filet, get the regular center-cut; save your money.
Asparagus: the best item ordered and didn't disappoint; other than the kitchen messed up the request to hold all oil and butter. Note to restaurant: when you mess up, offer to leave the mess-up for all the trouble and wait vs just throwing it way. Only one person at the table actually needed it to be oil-free. The rest of us would have preferred it as is so this was an opportunity wasted.
Mashed potatoes: tasted how you'd imagine caulk to taste. Awful. I wonder if the kitchen mixed up the no-butter request put in for the Asparagus.
Salmon: over-cooked and dry but my brother thought it tasted really good anyway and ironically loved the special mashed potatoes that it came with which had pancetta and other special ingredients that the mashed potatoes side did not.
Tuna Tartare: high-quality very fresh tuna but really missed on the composition lacking in flavor and dimension. Would have greatly benefited from sesame seed oil, a few actual sesame seeds sprinkled on top, and perhaps a touch of lime, soy sauce, and ginger or a number of other possible options to spruce it up.
MISSED RED FLAG: Greystone overly touts how they were rated the #1 steakhouse. When a restaurant deserves such a distinction, the distinction speaks for itself. If displayed at all, it’s usually done with class not as a blatant way to lure tourists. Not sure when this was but if you check numerous review outlets -while not horribly rated- Greystone is actually rated near the bottom of the steakhouses in the area and was unfortunately in my experience the absolute worst steakhouse "meal" I can recall in any of the six of the seven continents I've had steak in, even at half the price. That may sound tongue-in-cheek but it is not. Nearby chains Ruth Chris and Eddie V's will completely crush this place. Even STK Steakhouse likely will be levels better, not only better but likely even less expensive too.
