Greystone Prime Steakhouse is the perfect refuge from the typical "bar food" or Mexican "fluff" in the Gaslamp. I sat at the bar for a solo dinner and it was exactly what I needed—substantial, high-quality, and satisfying.
The Wagyu Steak and Mashed Potatoes were incredible, preceded by a crisp Wedge Salad and a couple of cold beers.
What really sets this place apart is the service. Sara the manager always adds her extra special touch to every table, making sure everyone is well taken care of whether you’re dining alone or with a group. If you want a "real" meal with professional service in downtown, this is the spot. Highly recommend!

Every time I come here I feel like I am treated like a king. Armida was wonderful catering to my pallet, the best steaks, eclectic menu and appetizers, best pairing of wine, this place is fantastic! Best service and food! You won't be disappointed!

I made reservations for my girlfriend and myself for Valentine’s Day expecting a special and memorable evening. I knew it would be busy, and we were completely understanding of that. What we did not expect was how poorly the entire experience would be handled from start to finish.

We were seated within a reasonable time, and our server brought water and took our order shortly after. Unfortunately, that was the last part of the night that went smoothly.

We waited about 45 minutes for our first course. When it finally arrived, it was shocking. I ordered the heart-shaped ravioli, which looked like a pile of sauce, and my girlfriend ordered the lamb chops. Both dishes were ice cold. Not slightly warm. Not room temperature. Ice cold, as if they had been sitting for quite some time.

I politely brought this to our server’s attention. He apologized and offered to replace my dish. About 20 minutes later, another plate arrived. While it looked better, it was still only lukewarm. By that point we were frustrated and hungry, so we ate it anyway.

While all of this was happening, the host was calling guests’ names and lining them up in the doorway leading to the entrance. It appeared to be an effort to make it seem like tables were moving quickly, but it created congestion right next to our table. We were seated outside, which meant people were standing directly in front of us and in our personal space for much of the night. It felt uncomfortable and honestly unsafe, as it blocked the entrance area and seemed like a potential fire hazard. To make matters worse, the outdoor heaters were not working, so we were sitting in the cold while trying to eat.

After finishing our first course, I asked to speak with a manager and was told our server was the assistant manager. I explained how disappointed we were so far, but nothing improved.

We then waited another 30 minutes for our entrées, which only came out after I asked again about our order. At that point, it felt like we were constantly having to chase our own food.

One of our sides was shrimp scampi, which cost an additional $25. When it arrived, it had only three shrimp. Charging that much for such a small portion was unacceptable, especially after everything else that had gone wrong.

We were told we would receive a discount, so we tried to move forward and salvage what we could of the evening. Unfortunately, that was not possible. My ribeye was lukewarm, and my girlfriend’s salmon was ice cold, overcooked, and had a foul taste. Watching her try to eat it on what was supposed to be a romantic night was incredibly disappointing.

At that point, I asked to speak to the manager again and let him know we were done. We had completely lost confidence in the kitchen. He apologized and agreed to comp our entire meal.

While I understand Valentine’s Day is one of the busiest nights of the year, being busy is not an excuse for cold food, poor presentation, slow service, and an uncomfortable dining environment. This felt like a complete breakdown in execution and preparation.

This was supposed to be a special evening for us, and instead it turned into a long, frustrating, and disappointing experience. For a restaurant that presents itself as upscale and charges premium prices, this was simply unacceptable.

We left feeling frustrated, let down, and embarrassed that I chose this place for such an important occasion. I would not recommend this restaurant. No matter how busy you are, guests deserve far better than what we experienced.

The food was good, but like some other reviews noted, portions were smaller than some other steakhouses I've been to. The servers were very friendly and attentive. We were there on a quiet Monday night so that definitely helped.

This was the worst experience I have ever had. My husband made reservations based on reviews my son had looked at and recommended this place to us. My husband made reservations for Valentines Day our reservations were for 5:15pm the place was crowded so the manager that was wearing a red blouse asked if we would be ok if we were seated outside it was nice evening, so we agreed we were seated in front of the restaurant outside in the far-left corner another couple was seated across from us about the same time. We were served water a few minutes later our waiter came up to us his name was Manny handed us our menus and walked away came back a short time later and took my husband and my order, we saw that he also took the order from the couple on the side of us. The couple sitting beside us started conversation with us very nice couple we got to know each other pretty well to the point that you would have thought we were on a double date lost track of time. Next thing the manager in the red blouse that sat us outside comes to the table and wants to clear off the table stating that the reservation is for only 90 minutes and that the next reservation has to be seating, I was flabbergasted and said we haven't even gotten our food by now it is 6:30pm we she looks at us in disbelief and tells us "oh you haven't had your food, let me go check with your waiter" leaves and then Manny the waiter comes out with 2 salads that he proceed to give to the other couple the lady tells the waiter they were here before us shouldn't these salad go to them and he answers and says I'll be right back comes back out with 2 Caesar salads that were absolutely disgusting. someone comes and takes our plates another 15 minutes go by and my husband sees the manager and again tells her we have not gotten our food, yet she looked at him and said let me go check with the kitchen my husband tells me what you want to do I told him let's just leave by now it is 7:00 pm so we walked out. This was the worst experience ever, not only did the manager not ever come back and explain anything to use of what was going of no apology or anything also the waiter not once ever check on us either we saw other people that came in after us and they were served and were eating. Very bad service not impressed at all for a place that has good reviews.

My husband made a 4:15pm reservation at Greystone Prime Steakhouse and Seafood to celebrate Valentine’s Day. It was our first time here and we were excited to try somewhere new, in San Diego. Unfortunately, this turned out to be one of the most disappointing (and uncomfortable) dining experiences we’ve had.
First, the seating situation was unbelievably cramped. The tables were so close together that I could barely squeeze through with my pregnant belly (and I’m not a large person!) I can’t imagine how uncomfortable this would be for someone plus-sized. It was honestly embarrassing trying to maneuver to our table without bumping into the couples next to us. To make matters worse, my husband’s chair was positioned along the walkway leading to the only bathroom in the restaurant, so staff and guests were constantly bumping into him all night.
Our table was wobbly to the point that we had to hold it steady with our knees while eating. The wall next to us was visibly dirty — it looked like food had been splattered on it and never cleaned (I even took a photo). For a restaurant charging over $200 for dinner, basic cleanliness and stable tables shouldn’t be too much to ask.
Now for the food. We ordered the prix fixe menu, and while the 8oz filet mignon was good, everything else was extremely underwhelming for the $250 total we paid for two people. My “wedge salad” was not a wedge at all — just a few (very few) dry lettuce leaves with barely any blue cheese crumbles and no actual blue cheese dressing. It was a sad excuse for a starter. Dessert was one of two options: I chose the lemon cake. It looked and tasted like a slice of Costco cake. We didn’t even finish the salad or dessert. It honestly felt like we paid $250 for two small filets and frustration.
The service made the night even worse. Our waiter, Dan, was extremely pushy and impatient from the start — and mind you, we arrived before the Valentine’s Day rush at 4:15pm. He repeatedly assumed I was done ordering, cut me off, and when I tried to order additional sides, he ignored me entirely until my husband had to repeat the order for him. He rushed us through salad and entrees, yet disappeared completely when it came time for dessert and paying the bill. We had to flag someone down just to leave.
The most uncomfortable part was when it came time to pay. After my husband tapped his card, the waiter handed the machine to me to complete the tip and sign. As I was reviewing the suggested tip amounts, he repeatedly tried to grab the machine out of my hands before I was finished — four separate times to be exact. I had to tell him I wasn’t done, and my husband even asked him to please be patient and give me a moment. It was unbelievably rude and I felt pressured to leave a tip that I didn’t feel comfortable leaving. Standing over someone and trying to snatch the payment machine mid-tip is not how you create a positive dining experience.
One last thing that stuck with me: a table set for a party of six had three separate couples seated literally SHOULDER TO SHOULDER…all three separate couples that did not know each other had to sit at one table with their dates for Valentine’s Day. It was incredibly awkward and uncomfortable to watch, I couldn’t even imagine how they felt. If that had been us, we would have definitely walked out.
For $250, we expected quality food, attentive service, a clean environment, and at the very least a comfortable place to sit. Instead, we left feeling rushed, cramped, and disappointed. Sadly, this was not worth the price, and we will not be returning.

I was really disappointed with our Valentine’s Day experience at Greystone Steakhouse. For a night that’s supposed to feel special and romantic, it was anything but.

The restaurant was extremely overcrowded. Tables were literally shoulder to shoulder — there was no privacy at all. It felt cramped and chaotic instead of intimate. To make things worse, our table was near the stairs leading to the restroom, and people kept bumping and even kicking my chair as they went up and down. It completely ruined the atmosphere.

Our waiter, Dan P., made the experience even more frustrating. From the start, he rushed us to order and didn’t give us time to relax or enjoy the moment. When you’re spending over $250 for dinner, you expect a quality dining experience — not to feel pressured the entire time. Even when it came time to pay the bill, he rushed us again.

For the prices they charge, the service and overall experience should match. Unfortunately, this felt more like a crowded cafeteria than an upscale steakhouse. Definitely not the Valentine’s Day experience we were hoping for.
